all the small things.

* I'm not quite sure how to post large pictures yet, and was sick of keeping this lovely post in queue, so I'll go ahead post and continue on... and hopefully finish the pictures soon!

Dear World (Cher Monde),

Thank you for the glowing abstract silhouettes you have been gifting me every morning. They are lovely. Since you have longer daylight hours, you have been making everyone so happy.

Maybe you should consider permanently switching, though I'm sure it would be a considerable amount of work, since you have been traveling in the same oval now for Godonlyknows how long; but a circle is a nice shape and I'm only suggesting you consider it.

Yours,
Bridget

Speaking of shapes, I'm trying to find hearts wherever I go. I would love to see what anyone else has found! See the two here?

While taking my little heart-nosed pup out for a stroll today, I happened across the most charming Garden for-no-reason-at-all Party (which is the best kind, in my opinion).

I hope to recycle some of the ideas like the quilt "rug" and the scarf chair covers. adorable. I also cooked up some ideas in my head for what I would like to eat at just such a garden party: mimosas, appetizer, salad, main course, and dessert and dessert and dessert and dessert.

All these girls are so adorable (and talented, check out Ashley's designs {here} and {here}) and are the type of acquaintances you'd like to turn into super-friends. Inspiring.

Hope springs eternal in Spring (such as my hopes for lots more posts this week),

pearls {of wisdom}

I cannot believe it's been a week since my first post.
I wish they were both frequent and consistent, but for now, let's say that inspiration comes more than time (or the ability to manage it properly), so consistency prevails. I am an eternal optimist (read: I never learn) so I have hopes that my posts will only become more frequent, too.

my little baubles today are pearls {of wisdom}

I have always loved quotes. If you think they are for the weak, maybe give them another chance?
Or just blow a kiss of inner strength to me with your special recipe.
If you do happen to share my love for quotes, do share!

These are my favorite quotes throughout my life, at different ages and stages.

<5>: "...be kind to one another..." Paul? in Ephesians chapter 4, verse 32 in the Bible. My poor older sister heard this many-a-time...

15 years: "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that's the stuff life is made of." Benjamin Franklin

16 years: "People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis,
it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway."
Kent Keith

and

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact with attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change the past... We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you. We are in charge with our attitudes." Charles Swindoll

17 years: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Paul 1 Corinthians, verse 4-7, the Bible

19 years: "Remember, remember, this is now, and now, and now. Live it, feel it, cling to it. I want to become acutely aware of all I've taken for granted." Sylvia Plath

and

"I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn't quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet." Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar, Chapter 7

and now, at 20-something years: "We dare not trust out wit for making our house pleasant to our friends, so we buy ice cream." Ralph Waldo Emerson and "and to use one's hands and eyes; to talk to people; to be a straw on the river, now and then - passive, not striving to say this is this. if one does not lie back and sum up and say to the moment, stay you are so fair, what will be one's gain, dying? no: stay, this moment. no one ever says that enough. always hurry. I am now going in, to see L. and say stay this moment." Virginia Woolf

And others, for which I do not have a time frame: "And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. -- Sylvia Plath and half a century later another version: Watch this... I leave you with this to laugh about. We are all addicted. let's help each other out

This is now and now and now

Promised to start this little blog ages ago, at the beginning of the year, and it is March 19th. Though starting it today is not so terrible, and here is why: March 19th, in my opinion, looks and sounds lovely. If it had color and smell it would be a mix of lovely blues, yellows and pink and would smell like Chanel No. 5. Also, today has been quintessentially Average and starting this turns things to Not-So-Average; I did something extra. <-- Which is also another delicious little word in both sound and meaning. As you can tell I love words and I love aesthetic. So I hope to win you over as a faithful friend. If you can wade through the caveats and disclaimers, the parentheses and the rabbit trails that my writing, by nature, contains and find something silly, odd, charming, tasteful, breathtaking, though-provoking, classic or beautiful in both word or picture (or sound), which is what I hope this blog will produce, than it is success (even if it is two and a half months late).

Beginnings should be sweet, which would make this short-- I'll leave you with a link to one of the catalysts for this blog: an article in January 2009 Vogue. It has been my favorite article this year, both funny and smart:

Here's to the Good Life.

Love, Bree
